CASE STUDY
Sector due diligence for potential foreign purchaser of NZ Bus
Offshore private equity firm
The opportunity
The owners of NZ Bus were looking to sell out. Our client, an offshore private equity firm based in North America, had submitted an expression of interest and were seeking to make a final decision on a bid. The firm had no investments in New Zealand and with the borders closed were limited in their ability to travel here to undertake due diligence.
We were hired to provide them with an understanding of the political environment, the policy positions and likely future changes, the situation with the unions and to better understand the Public Transport Operating Model (PTOM).
What we did
Drawing on our professional networks, we were able to quickly mobilise and make contact with a wide spectrum of players ranging from the unions to politicians (central and local government) to government agencies and other interested parties. We provided a pack of findings, using Teams calls to present the information back efficiently.
The outcome
Our client was very impressed with the speed of our mobilisation and the insights gained in a very short space of time. Our responsiveness and flexibility meant they were able to use the information provided to (ultimately) decide not to bid.
